This isn’t just a point and shoot kind of game and so it allows you to be more tactical and mindful about the way to eliminate the target. On the second mission there is only one small area, filled with hundreds of people on screen in-game (demonstrating the power of the Glacier 2 engine) and you set out to eliminate a certain target. In the past games it was more about the gameplay then the story, and you carries out assassination contracts, and it’s no different this time but some missions don’t require you kill specific target, and instead ask you to retrieve some intel or escape from an area. These missions play out extremely well and some still have the Hitman style gameplay, that has been in previous games. The game loses part of the Hitman-esque gameplay that has been in the previous titles and has more story-focused missions. The game takes off from that point, with you having to protect Victoria. After carrying out the assignment, you are set a task of protecting a girl named Victoria. The beginning of the game explores the relationship they had together and how she betrayed the Agency. The game takes place after the last instalment being Blood Money, and while under the command of the International Contract Agency, you are sent to take out a past agent that 47 has worked with Diana Burnwood.

I think it was a good move to implement a better story, especially to compete against other stealth games such as the Metal Gear Solid and Splinter a Cell series’. It is a first for the Hitman series to have a well written story as in the past, it has mainly been about the gameplay and how to assassinate many different targets, using the weapons and tools at your disposal. The story is well written with a talented line-up of voice actors playing each character, especially Agent 47. Hitman: Absolution is a brilliant ‘Stealth ’em up’ that combines enjoyable gameplay using mechanics I haven’t seen used in many other games, brilliant set pieces and environments and a story driven experience that explores aspects such as Agent 47’s past and fleshes out the other characters on hand albeit not all. This is a bit of a late review for when the game actually released, but it’s for a great stealth game that I recently picked up, and the first game from the series for me.
